From its inception, Dr. Sheen's office has remained at the forefront of dental technology. His was the first completely computerized dental office in the greater Annapolis area. We remain one of the few offices to utilize the CEREC Cad-Cam system. Dr. Sheen has eliminated the need for those messy impressions by acquiring a digital impression computer. Dr. Sheen is constantly monitoring the progression of various technologies, such as the dental laser, to determine when best to incorporate that piece of equipment into the office. No technology is utilized until the results have been tested and are found to be predictable and successful.
The CEREC Cad-Cam system produces a one-visit porcelain restoration. Dr. Sheen has been utilizing this technology for over 10 years. The tooth is shaped for the restoration, then scanned with a laser. The information is downloaded into the computer for design purposes. Once "designed", the information is sent via WiFi to a unit that actually makes the restoration on-site. This typically takes 5 to 10 minutes, depending on the size of the final restoration. The final restoration fits like a glove. It often fits better than what an off-site dental lab can produce. And the esthetics are amazing.
