CEREC One-Visit Restorations
Developed in Germany in 1995, the CEREC system uses computer aided design technology fabricate and treat patients with ceramic restorations all in a single visit to the dentist. Dr. Sheen has been using the CEREC Restoration system for many years, and was the first dentist in the Annapolis area to being using CEREC Restorations as part of his everyday practice. By taking advantage of the technology when it first became available, Dr. Sheen has learned how to consistently shape restorations to get a natural result, rather than use software to mask previous dental mistakes.
Patients benefit from conservative CEREC Restorations in a number of ways. They are made from high quality, durable ceramics that are anti-abrasive and plaque resistant, and made to match the natural color of each patient's teeth. And because the entire restoration process takes place over the course of one visit, patients typically require fewer anesthetic injections, minimal amounts of drilling, and less time spent in the dental chair.
The CEREC Restoration process starts with a topographical laser scan of the tooth that needs work. Dr. Sheen then cleans out and removes the portion of tooth that is being restored, and scans the tooth again. The information from both scans is then merged into one image, and sent over to the milling unit that sculpts the porcelain restoration as an exact match of the pre-existing tooth prior to the procedure. The new restoration is then bonded to the base structure of the original tooth with permanent adhesives.
CEREC Restorations have helped thousands of people rebuild their smile with positive results. If you would like to learn more about this state-of-the-art technology and how it could benefit you during your next dental appointment, contact the office of Dr. Sheen today.
